The Configuration Management Strategy is a section in the Project Initiation Document. It sets out rules and guidelines for managing the configuration of configuration items (CIs) over their lifecycle, and is particularly useful during periods of change where attribute changes can be noted. It is supported by many standards and frameworks such as ISO, CMMI and ITIL.
Before creating the CMS, it is prudent to check without your organization where once already exists. Departments such as IT Asset Management or Infrastructure should be consulted.
