A Decision Item (DI) is a mechanism by which project decisions are formally documented so that they can be resolved by the appropriate party. They should be used for decisions of any consequence, therefore projects can expect to create many. DIs are embedded in Meeting Minutes so that decisions made during meetings are not forgotten.
The benefit of a DI is that it illuminates where decisions need to be made, and then applies the appropriate governance in obtaining an answer. This prevents rogue decision making, and provides perfect clarity for the direction for the project.
